Jake Lintott smashed 93 not out from just 75 balls as Clevedon recorded a seven-wicket win at Havant in the ECB Club Championship last 16.

ECB Club Championship - last 16
Havant 135, Clevedon 136-3

Piers McBride reports.

After Saturday’s debacle, Clevedon enjoyed a spectacular seven-wicket victory over Havant to reach the quarter finals of the Royal London National Knockout Competition.

This was a major triumph in a high-profile 40-over-a-side contest and this time Jacob Lintott and his side were at their very best, reaching the last eight as the result of an excellent all-round performance.

Batting first, the home side Havant could never come to terms with the visitor’s skilful and varied attack. Steve Ransley, 76, snarled defiance after opening the innings and being the last man out, but apart from that Clevedon’s attack ran riot.

Danny Williams 2 for 23 and skipper Lintott, 2 for 26, snapped up early wickets but it was the indefatigable Jake Rowe who really caught the eye with three LBWs and a clean bowled in his figures of 4 for 32.

Plain sailing after this? Well no, not exactly. Opener Masoor Khan made three at the top of the order to leave Clevedon 25 for 3, Harry Ellison and Max Curtis contributing very little, but on this occasion the roof didn’t fall in as master batting craftsmen Jacob Lintott and Connor Crane joined forces to add a match winning 111 for the fourth wicket.

Captain Lintott was at his imperious best, hitting 17 fours in his undefeated 93 from just 75 balls while the in-form Crane held a watching brief to close with 31 not out.

Clevedon will travel to Middlesex to face Stanmore CC in the quarter-final on Sunday, August 5th.
